Peress reviews

Rijeka’s Rubicon Theatre is unique in Croatia in their approach to theatre and the only theatrical group to have dedicated entirely to movement as a means of theatrical expression. In its exploration and implementation of movement they have achieved remarkable maturity.

Communication with shows of Rubicon Theatre means liberation of the need to rationally interpret the seen and the heard. You are expected to subdue to your stream of consciousness, to excitements of your senses and to unclear feelings. If you allow yourself such a half (sub) conscious perceptive state, in seemingly cold and mathematically calculated dynamic of space filled with bodies manipulated into objects, you will recognize yourself, the world, the sadness and the poetry.

The highlight of the festival’s progamme has been the performance of Rubicon Theatre. In the context of the festival dubbed as “the vision of future” Rubicon Theatre has offered an intriguing artistic and musical dimension of communication.

Nula is a powerful combination of movement, picture and sound.

The approach of Rubicon Theatre is studious and disciplined and theatrical work for them means deliberately staging a problem extremely hard to solve and trying to solve it by theatrical exploration. As a result their productions are special and unique.

“Nula” is a furious wave of movement, light and sound whose tempo is fast and exhausting from beginning to end. It fills a unique space between ballet and drama in an exciting way.
Edo Juraga
Imaginative choreography full of new and surprising solutions, interesting dance of the background and adequate music all make this show an exciting and aesthetically brilliant production which may be dubbed as constructivism but certainly shows imaginative directorial and choreographical artistry.
Davor Mojaš
“Nula”- uncompromising physical, biomechanical theatre.
M. Kalajžić
Powerful, balanced and unusually mature show.

Originally created show which Rijeka`s cultural scene needs.
Irena Čorak

The merits of this production are such that it would without a doubt be a valuable addition to Week of Contemporary Dance in Zagreb.

Nula, a decisive and excellent work, warns and brings our theatrical audiences closer to the “open” language of physical theatre, to exciting associations provoked by collision and harmony of movement and sound.
Marin Blažević
The consistency of their work is such that the future should see them crossing the boundaries of a local theatre scene.

Beside acting techniques (mime and biomechanics), Rubicon uses the laws of physical theories in their productions which makes them unique in Croatia’s theatre world. By deconstructing and constructing anew geometrical shapes which become a dynamic element of the show, Peranic creates visually attractive moving pictures.

Reviews of the performance InterNetWork
Amid a growing tension, body structures were becoming more and more complicated until the fascinating finale which gathered all the performers into an assembly almost literally floating in the air.
Dalibor Foretić
As a pioneer in applying theory of chaos in Croatia`s theatre Peranic successfully connects seemingly chaotic scenes into firm structure, demonstrating how each improvisation ends in a moment of „organized chaos“ (so called deterministic chaos) and how human relationships remain trapped by contemporary mass media which turned people into machines and destroyed individuality.

Reviews of the performance D E-motion(s)
The stage was surrounded with big glass water containers. The predominant feature of the show is the dynamics, moving in monotony, creating feelings and constantly destroying them.

Reviews of the performance Aspects of Alice

...her wonderland on the other side of the mirrors is created in an extremely abstract way with an unusual light being the only definition of space.... Unlike previous projects which were marked by openess and emanation of energy Aspects Of Alice lives in a completely enclosed form which implodes in inner exhaustions.

Reviews of the performance Katarina na travi (K.on the grass)
In Katarina na travi, named after Catarina De Medici but obviously inspired by the Chereus`movie „Queen Margot“, the director determined aleatory of space enabling the performers to realize their dancing inspirations in collaboration with the audience which, as if on a picnic, were freely moving amongst them. The relaxed ways of the audience clashing with the directorial horror of movements which were achieved with a complete self control made the performers stand out of the mass.
Dalibor Foretić
The show is dominated by sudden exchanges of light and dark and by modelling the space with changing functions of picture.
